ENTRANCE TO THE PERUVIAN AMAZON
A city built around the Amazon. Located in a privileged point in northeastern Peru, on the left bank of the Amazon River, is one of the new 7 wonders of the world, near the border with Brazil and Colombia. It is the gateway to one of the most remote and extraordinary tropical environments of the world.
Bordered by the torrentous streams of the Amazon, the city is a strategic point from which to discover the immensity of the Amazon. The river port of Iquitos is the starting point to discover a land rich in diversity, both in flora and fauna and in culture and life forms.
Buildings that speak of another era. Iquitos, located more than 1,000km from Lima and only accessible by air, has been a city strongly marked by different historical moments. Many of the luxurious constructions that can be admired among its streets were built in the last decades of the nineteenth century, when the exploitation of rubber generated an economic impasse.
The main market and unique for its diversity give flavor to this city. Belen, an amazing neighborhood of wooden houses elevated above the waters, gives rise to the most diverse food market in the world, where you can find the most exotic foodstuffs grown, collected and processed locally.
